What's the best way to keep an eye out for a fair deal on some land around here? The Carolina Trader? General real estate sites? Specific realtor sites?

I can't figure out why, but land seems to get treated like gold around here. The average seems to be a ludicrous $25k/acre, even out in the middle of nowhere (which is what I'm looking for). To get a more reasonable $3-5k/acre, you have to buy in lots of 100+ acres, which I also have to rule out as I don't just have $300k in cash laying around (Still can't get land-only loans, right?).

Recently BB&T was still doing land loans.

You can find land in that price range in less developed areas, you just have to keep your eyes open. Also contacting someone who has access to the MLS can help as well.

There are still people with land financing out there. Agsouth would be a good place to check with. That being said, an answer to your original question would be just to get a Realtor to set you up on an MLS search. In the Cola MLS an agent can set you up where you are automatically notified via emal anytime land meeting your criteria hits the market. It will include information and photos and be in the format of a private site where you can save and track anything that interests you.
