All of our family is on the other side of the country and I thought it would be nice to send them a little taste of the South for gifts for Christmas. I'd love any ideas or suggestions. I've thought about mustard BBQ sauce, grit mixes, boiled peanuts, and other local fare but I'd like to get the best of the best. Any recommendations on brands or where to buys such things would be most appreciated. Also other ideas as well- it doesn't necessarily have to be food although Gamecocks themed items would probably be lost on them. Thanks!

I send Stickey Fingers gift baskets to my Yankee family a few years back. Try them. Also try Gullah Gourmet, Charleston, SC

^ Agree with this.

Two other very Southern things you may want to send that are excellent:

Nana's Pralines - They do not have a website. You have to buy them in a store that sells them. They are THE best. Mast General has them.

High end, hand crafted, "Moonshine" from Dark Corner Distillery. Very, very fun gift. Click on this link: Micro Distillery in South Carolina | Dark Corner Distillery

There is actually a store called "Taste of the South" that's based in Columbia. Look them up online.

The closest, now, is Augusta or Summerville. The Sticky Fingers in Columbia closed down (and is now home to Huller's Black Forest (German restaurant & deli)).

Blenheim Ginger Ale is a great gift.. I give it to my friends up here in DC. I get it at the grocery store on Devine down the street from Dreher. I can't remember if it is a Piggly Wiggly or a Bi-low..\

Blenheim Ginger Ale
Oh yeah! Blenheim is incredible. Had never tried it until I moved to SC. Great as a drink mixer and great to heat up with honey and whiskey when you have a cold!
