Yeah it's pretty much like being 13th best (out of 100).

Ohhhh I read it backwards. I thought it was saying Columbia had the 13th worst traffic out of 100 cities not the 13th best. to myself. Forgive me.

I know I am not in Columbia every day but, I have not seen a lot of bad traffic in the city. I think I26 can get bad and the I26/I20 interchange is terrible (when is this going to be fixed????). But, overall, I am not surprised to see the city's congestion not being an issue. If anything, I think the city could narrow some roads starting with Assembly.

Here's a reason for Columbians to be glad our metro is 88th out of the largest 100 metros in traffic gridlock.

Long commute time linked with poor health, new study shows

I think one thing that would help congestion a little would build more non-interstate bridges across the rivers (not a lot, but some spots could use them). Pushing the casual/slow/leisure drivers off the interstates to alternative options would help get rid of the slow drivers that hamper rush hour traffic. There are only 2 bridges that go across the Saluda River between Lake Dr. and I-126, and they both are interstates (I-20 & I-26). I understand that the metro area has shot itself in the foot in regards to allowing enough residential development to limit where bridges can be built, but it would be nice if this could be looked at.

Having a bridge that goes from Irmo just north or south of Harbison forest across to Monticello would be nice, though I don't know that it would save enough time or relieve enough congestion to make its construction worthwhile. It's just very strange to me that with all the development on both sides of Broad River north of 20, there are no bridges across until you get to the reservoir, which is almost due north of Chapin.

I've lived in several places too. It'd just be nice to see the area be a little more proactive to stay ahead with growth, but I know around here that's asking a lot!

This should help alleviate some of the traffic tie-ups in the Columbia area.
