As LexingtonDad pointed out, there are plenty of farmers sheds in the area. There is also the State Farmers Market on Charleston Highway in West Columbia. Sometimes, we'll go to the farmers market on Whaley Street on Saturdays. If you're interested, there is a CSA that will deliver your produce order to a central pick-up location every other weekend. Just PM me, if you'd like more info. We've done this a couple of times, and all I have to say is "WOW!"...you get A LOT.

Check out Olde Timey meat market. On Rte 6, just off of Rte 378 toward the dam. The best $6.50 Filet Mignon's I ever had. Best lamb chops in the area.

I will be moving to the lexington area in the near future. 2 questions. Is the heat a problem in summer and where can I rent a home by water that accepts pets?

The heat is just like any other place in the south in my opinion. The state does go into a severe drought during the summer, so dont expect too much rain or cool days. I'd look into an agency like Century21 to look for rental homes around Lake Murray.

that question is relative. Summer here is long and hot, winter is short and mild. But for us being from WI, that's why we moved here. We can deal with hi heat far easier then we dealt with the cold winters of the north. Though after 4 short years we find ourselves pretty acclimated to the mild temps already. Even at this time of year, as the NE awaits a big storm tonight, we are sunny and 60-ish which is close to avg.

So in my opinion weather is only an issue if you cant make the most of it where you are. Easy to deal with actual northern winter if you ski, snowmobile, etc; and down here easy to deal with southern summer if you like the sun & water, hit the ocean, or even take a drive into the mountains.

When we visited back home for the holidays we had a 20" blizzard hit. We dont miss that ONE BIT.

Bring on summer!
