A couple of interesting items on the Planning Commission Agenda for the City.
1) Annexation and rezoning of a parcel off of Farrow Road.. Its 26 acres so it could be a fairly good size development if/when it is built. Seems to be up by the Midlands Tech NE Campus SC Development Authority Site so it could be more apartments or even office
2) Expansion of Carvers School down in the Waverly/Edgewood Area. This is interesting because it seems to be an expansion of the school as opposed to rebuilding. I wonder if they are expecting an increase in enrollment because of the new development in the area especially as plans are developed for Allen Benedict Court site and Gonzales Gardens fill out.
I noticed a week or so ago that the "Under Contract" sign on the property next to the library has been removed. Is that a sign that The Edge is another project that has gone by the wayside in Columbia? The city certainly seems to be lagging behind most other Carolinas cities in Major development activity

It’s been gone for months. I think it’s still on, they should be starting sometime in fall I thought.
So this is a new development that will be constructed off of Lower Richland Blvd. It will be nearly 1,000 homes.. There are concerns being raised about traffic and school overcrowding at Horrell, Southeast and Lower Richland.. These schools are ranked on GreaterSchools.org as 4,3,and 1 respectively out of 10 with 10 being the highest ranking... If housing construction is often predicated on school district and zone quality of schools.. this would debunk that theory no? Additionally, I wonder why there is so much interest in Lower Richland County but not in northern Richland.. which has similar school challenges along with infrastructure but from a location perspective may be just as well if not better situated than Lower Richland in terms of location/proximity to downtown and major shopping in both NE and NW Richland. Lower Richland residents have also tended to resist growth which is something you dont see in northern Richland/ Richland NE.. but yet there seems to be way more developer interest on LR side of town...Just an observation

My guess is Ft. Jackson and Sumter/ Shaw AFB being close in proximity helps. Plus they are close to manufacturing plants along Shop/Bluff/Pineview Rd areas. Very little industry in Northern Richland county.
