If the term "thousand year flood" actually meant once in a thousand years, then sure, why wouldn't you just rebuild what you had before. But it means there's a one in a thousand chance of it happening in a given year, and it's based on old (both outdated and incomplete) climate data. It could happen again next year, and the one-in-a-thousand odds could be too low. I should hope that, when rebuilding gets underway, it's with a mind that what happened can happen again.

Actually it means there's one in a thousand chance it could happen on any given day anywhere.

Construction to begin on renovations to the Bullstreet Common bakery, which will house co-working space SOCO and a coding school.

No, it means a 0.1% chance of it happening in a single year.

Note the word "anywhere" in my last statement.

Whatever, let's start a flood-related forum if people want to discuss this further. Doesn't make sense to continue this discussion in the Bull Street forum.

I'm glad to see the bakery renovation get underway. I'd prefer if the announcement included some of the elusive retailers, but a coding school is a good thing for the local economy. Glad to see this happening as part of the project.

I haven't been by there lately because of all the rain; I'll try and go by this weekend.

I see the ballpark and first base building everytime I go downtown since I have to come down farrow road and I must say much progress is being made and an April opening still looks possible.

I spoke to one of the Fireflies representatives soon after the floods and at that point she said they were very much ahead of schedule due to a dry summer. They are expecting to be able to move in to the stadium in February.
