I see that Finlay Park has been blocked off as part of its renovation. I was told by a friend of mine that lives in the Wavery/Shandon area that he has seen an uptick in the amount of homeless people milling around in King Park Five Points and a few others have said the same about Cottontown and Elmwood Park. THey believe it has to do with the park closure. The Mayor/City Council have been silent on the removal of the Oliver Gospel Mission and Salvation Army from downtown to a "homeless services facility"' somewhere else in town. There are a handful of old shopping centers left around town and I suspect that this type of facility will end up in one of them... I could see the old Midlands Shopping Center up on Two Notch and Covenant Road being a candidate for this as it is already has social services, its on a major bus route (Two Notch) and not far from downtown. I dont know how the residents of Edgwood or Rochelle Heights will feel about it though. I could also see (fill in the blank) motel along Two Notch being purchased and converted into supportive housing......

Midlands Terrace is a nice community. I believe it is between Covenant and Harrison Roads? If the facility is properly run then the folks may remain on site or move up and down Two Notch and not into the neighborhood. With the improvements to Richland Mall.. hopefully the neighborhood will continue to be desirable. Again, we shall see where it ends up going.. but if they put it too far out of town, people will not go to it and clearly people dont want it intown/downtown.. So the older commercial and interburban communties will likely be the ideal candidates.

As you can see from the photo its a HUGE site...They could actually put in a few modular units on site for temporary housing if they want to be creative. They could get quite a few on there and screen the site in and make it like a little subdivision.. that is staff and monitored with services in the existing shopping center. Ideally, I would love to see it redeveloped like what is being proposed for the Sunset Shopping Center.. but I dont see that happening any time soon. If they put housing on site.. it will have to be managed or else it will become a Skid Row or shanty town which would not turn out well.
