Fairfield County does have a kind of "just right" feel to its topography, not unlike Newberry County. The lay of the land in Kershaw County is a bit monotonous, not really hilly, not really flat. You don't have the feeling of being in the mountains, as much as being on a very, very high plateau (about 1/2 mile elevation). Camden feels just a little bit like that.
Yeah everything east and south of Camden does feel very monotonous ...I guess that is that transition between the Midlands and the Pee See which puts the mono in monotonous lol north Kershaw Fairfield Chester and Lancaster look and feel much different

The article I read in the Charlotte Business Journal stated that Fairfield County is very optimistic about landing an auto manufacturing plant. First, there is the large parcel of land that now has water sewer. Second, is the low cost of doing business in Fairfield. Also, although Fairfield is a rural county with plenty of available land, it is also situated next to more populous counties that can more than adequately supply the labor needed. This makes total sense. Once the auto plant arrives then the part manufacturers will follow. But this will not make Fairfield an over night success story. But over time the county will continue to grow. But the first step is attracting an auto manufacturer or something comparable. We know that the new auto plants have gone to states with low costs of doing business such as SC, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi. So, another plant in SC is highly possible. It may be more attractive than the land that NC is marketing for an auto plant in Alamance County. It does not matter about the I26 corridor’s past history. And I77 is not in competition with I26. I77 is not going to have the dynamics of i26 any times soon. But I77 has the economic engine of the Charlotte metro. York County is among the five fastest growing counties in SC every year, and it is about to jump over 300k in population soon. Soon there will begin to be population spillover into Chester County. And Chester has landed the big tire manufacturer and Gallo Wines of California is building a winery in Chester County that could have a huge impact. Gallo says if everything goes as planned then the winery will have a huge impact. So. in my humble opinion, the Charlotte metro will continue to move south and the Columbia metro will move north. If a big auto plant were to be built in the middle it would definitely help to fill the wide open spaces between the two metros. But there will still be plenty of rural open land left for decades to come.

SC over the next 5 years is going to be a force to be recognized. 50 years from now if it keeps it up will probably land quite the population boom.

I thought this was interesting.. though I have never seen one of these buses on Killian Road..Makes a lot of sense though..

Wonder if it gets used more than the Comet busses. I really see more than 1/2 people on Comet in the NE.

Yeah I can imagine it is likely used as Fairfield County may lack many of the shopping amenities that are certainly available in NE Richland though if you dont have a car and live in Fairfield County.. you likely have to get a ride to one of these stops just to GET to the bus.. Whoever takes you might as well drive you on down to Killian Road.. It would likely be quicker than the bus.. but any rate people's situation are different... I wonder if people actually transfer and go down to Downtown Columbia? Maybe for doctors appointments I guess?

The COMET gets good ridership in the City.. Riding to the NE is certainly a long ride.. I have seen some people waiting along Two Notch with that "Where the hell is the bus stare as they strain to see if it pokes its headlights over the horizon.. sometimes in extreme heat.. which is unfortunate.

I do sometimes see people at the Bus Stop in Sandhills near the Belk. They always seem unhappy to be there.

Yeah.. if some poor soul had to go from that stop to Bluff Rd or worse yet St Andrews... I can only imagine how long it would take... I thought I saw somewhere that Comet was trying to add more transfer sites in the suburbs to limit the long trip from far flung suburbs via downtown. Most jobs for lower income individuals are in the newer suburbs. More lower income folks are moving into the older suburbs.. So buses likely need to adjust from a downtown transfer facilities to one that connect older suburbs to newer ones..

So if that individual was going down to Dentsville, Woodfield Park, or New Castle.. that trip wouldnt be as bad as going all the way across town and having to transfer to boot.

What would be interesting is if some transit service tries to connect Charlotte with Columbia.. Maybe there is no interest in such a service yet..But in lieu of commuter rail.. a commuter /regional bus (Greyhound style not City Bus) to Charlotte may be interest at some point
