Benji Norton, most recently the afternoon man on 102.3 The Fox, has died, according to Facebook posts by both the station as well as his daughter.

Quote:
It is with a heavy, saddened heart we must share that our brother, Benji Norton, has passed away.
Always the SPIRIT of Fox, Benji filled the lives of those around him with laughter and plenty of smiles!
We Remember Benji Norton

I knew him first as one of the morning team on 107.5 The Game as I was then an avid listener of that station. The one time I met him was when I did a talk to my son's class on Career Day as a photojournalist at the time with WIS. I was walking down the hall and heard the speaker right ahead of me talking about his job at 107.5 The Game at the time and thought, "Great, I have to follow Benji Norton! No one is even going to listen to me." He finished up and looked at me with all my camera gear and joked, "Great! The guy with all the toys follows me." I thought it was funny we kind ahead the same reaction.

No details on how he passed. It seems like it must have just happened today. He was not too old. My sister knew him from her previous career. He seemed like a good guy from what I heard on the radio and from talking to other people in media whom we both knew.

My dad was a disc jokey (he doesn't like to be referred to as a DJ for some reason) and he knew Benji well throughout his years at Fox102 and of course afterwords when my Dad changed professions. To be honest, they went to USC at the same time so I'm pretty sure they had classes together since they both majored in broadcast journalism. I'll have to ask him about that...

Benji indeed was funny. From your sons career day that certainly sounds like something he would say. I listened to him a good bit too on 107.5 and he was a good sport on there that would occasionally interject his off the cuff quips and jokes.

One more thing, I do remember my Dad telling me Benji was an avid smoker back in the day, I'm not sure how far back, though.

From what I've heard, his daughter found him but no other details; although I don't think it'd be appropriate to do so on here. RIP Benji.

My sister worked at the Fox back in the late 80s and early 90s (in advertising) and had nothing but good things to say about him. Said he was super nice and always excited about working in radio.

Yes, he was a nice guy. Back in 1990, Fox was giving away a different concert somewhere on the road, every month. I knew all the "DJs", so I entered the contest one drunken night, and forgot all about it. Well, a couple of weeks later, I got a really early phone call while getting ready for work. Thinking it was my helper, calling to tell me he was running late, I didn't answer it. Then the phone rang again, it was Benji on the morning show, I had won the big prize. So I went up to the station to get my tickets for Knebworth in London. That year it was Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Dire Straights, Phil Collings and Genesis and I think Tears for Fears. Clapton and Knopler both played guitar for Elton, so cool. As if that wasn't enough, Benji was thrilled to tell me, that they were throwing in The Rolling Stones at Wembley Stadium for the 4th of July. I think the next concert after mine was Don Henley in Peoria Ill. Thank God I got the right one. RIPB

That was a hell of a concert for you. So jealous!
