Which is the nicest area for family with good schools, near medical centers (wife is RN), and shopping?

Both areas have nice areas. They are both somewhat big suburban cities with several neighborhoods. In Lexington you just want to be in Lexington 1 schools, in Irmo you want to be in Dutch Fork Schools. I believe it's a little more of a diverse population in Irmo, which is why I chose a property in the Dutch Fork area. I feel diversity is good for kids. I believe there are more places to work in Lexington for an RN though. Though Irmo butts right against Lexington so it's just a matter of finding a property you like within your budget. Shopping is easy in both areas as well. There are several new homes and neighborhoods throughout both cities. My advise is come out here for an extended weekend or a week and check it out in person. Whether you end up in Irmo, Lexington, Chapin, or Blythewood, chances are you'll be in a home you love with a safe neighborhood, good schools, and easy commute. I relocated here from Pittsburgh, and there's a bit of a culture shock, but it's a great place to live.
