How does Aflac Arena sound? Or how about TSYS Center? Or perhaps the slogan, "See you in Kia Arena"?
Those and more are the possibilities with the city saying Friday it is taking another shot at selling the naming rights to the 10,000 seat Columbus Civic Center.

The city has put out a "request for proposals" to find a company -- local or otherwise -- willing and able to put up cold, hard cash in exchange for putting its name on the facade and other marketing and press materials connected to the entertainment venue, which opened 16 years ago.

Prospects have until Nov. 30 to submit their bids, with officials offering tours of the Civic Center starting Nov. 5 to those interested in taking a stab at seeing their name attached to the facility.

Civic Center officials have studied the arena market across the U.S. and determined that now is the time to give it another try. A list compiled shows a wide range of pricing, from $2 million over six years ($345,000 annually) at US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee to $18.75 million over 25 years ($750,000 annually) at Donny Sanford Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D. -- and plenty of dollar signs in between.

The current request for proposals seeks a five-year commitment, with a five-year renewal clause. If requests are received, a committee will review the bids and likely make a decision by early next year on them. Columbus Council would need to approve any contract and, if one should materialize, it would likely be next spring before any change in the Civic Center's name and other marketing and hospitality areas occurs.

Much of the money raised from the naming rights would go toward refurbishing the Civic Center and taking care of some much-needed maintenance that has accumulated through the years.
A new cooling tower for the venue's heating and air system is one of the top items on the director's wish list, while aesthetic work like new paint, carpet, tile, window tinting and cafe-style seating in some areas are likely expenditures if a corporate partner is found.

Aflac Arena sounds good to me!!

In my opinion i think the columbus civic center should stay the same. There should not be no need to change it's name. And i don't think aflac arena or coca cola arena wouldn't sound all that great it's not like the columbus civic center is a 20,000 or 30,000 or higher seating capacity arena. The reason why I stay that is because when you think of the term arena you really think of a big arena like the phillips arena in atlanta or the american airlines arena in miami or any other bigger major arena in the any of the major metroropoltian area's not the current columbus civic center I really don't consider the current columbus civic center is on a scale to be considered a arena like the phillips arena in atlanta or any other big major arena like in the bigger metroropoltian area's. The columbus civic center only seat's 10,000 people on that scale it should be considered a civic center not a arena because arena's have a higher seating capacity. So here are some names i came up with as well as what it should be called if the current name get's changed.

1. NCR Center - do you get it not NCR arena but NCR center because it sounds better.

2. Blue cross blue shield Center.

3. or Blue cross blue shield plaza Center.

4. Aflac dan amos Center.

5. or Aflac amos Center.

These are the only names i could only came up with that sounded great for the civic center. Because aflac arena or coco cola arena just doesn't fit well. Now if columbus was to demolish the current civic center and build a larger higher capacity seating arena on an higher scale then i would much more consider it an arena and then it could be called aflac arena or coca cola arena. But for right now I think it should stay the columbus civic center. But I really like the NCR center one as well I think it would fit well with the civic center.
