The new 35,000-square-foot Dorothy W. McClure Theatre is changing the look of First Avenue. The building's brick facade in the 1000 block of First Avenue is under construction now.

The Springer Opera House's dedicated theater for children's productions, along with the theater's Studio II series, is on schedule.

The $11.5 million capital campaign that raised the money to build the new theater, the new classrooms and added money to the endowment fund was closed on Feb. 21, the Springer's 142nd birthday.
Right behind the theater, which will seat about 300 people, there is a large classroom/rehearsal space.
There is a balcony space that will house the sound/lighting consoles as well as other technical equipment.

Before the renovation was finished in 1999, the Springer had about 35,000 square feet of usable space.
After the renovation, the usable space was more than doubled to 75,000 square feet, including the third floor administrative offices and apartments for visiting actors, musicians and directors.

With the addition of the new theater and classroom/rehearal space, it has reached 111,000 square feet.
