Columbus State University plans to build a golf studio and driving range on 11 acres of land across from the main campus on University Avenue.

It will be primarily a practice facility for the university's golf teams and students in golf classes, but the school's athletics director Jay Sparks said Monday that sometime in the future the general public also might be able to use it.

Besides the driving range, there also will be a place for golfers to work on their putting and short game.

Pro golfer and former Masters champion Larry Mize, whose son Robert plays on the CSU golf team, will help design the golf studio.

The estimated cost for the project is $1.75 million, and Sparks said all of the funding will come from private donations.

Awesome addition to the university. CSU has one of the best Division II programs in the nation. This will definitely help with recruiting. Smart move by the university.

There have been serious talks about developing a program. It has been an initiative over the last couple of years. I imagine within 5 years there is a strong possibilty of having a team. They already have a club team that plays games. They just added women's volleyball. I would love to see CSU grow to around 15,000 students.
