City shakes after plane breaks sound barrier | Latest News | Columbus Ledger Enquirer

Quote:
A plane flying near the Columbus Airport broke the sound barrier Tuesday afternoon, sending a shock wave -- and resulting boom -- through the area, according to police scanner traffic.
Such "sonic booms" are created by an object moving faster than the speed of sound.
Residents across Columbus, from Peachtree Mall to Macon Road to Midland, as well as in Phenix City, reported hearing and feeling the incident.
For anyone who heard the boom...my first thought was a car blew up in the parking lot outside the building. Then I thought maybe they were testing something a Ft Benning with a little more power than usual lol.

ROFL! That's hilarious, especially since some of my friends made jokes about it being Guiles Sonic Boom attack!

Shook us up out here in Cataula. I, too, thought it was something at Ft. Benning. My husband told me what it was when he got home from work.
