It seems so crazy to see that number. We left a town of 170k, and had 2 Sam's Clubs, 8 Publix, 2 Aldi, BJ's, at least 20 Dunkin Donut locations, a Bass Pro, 3 Home Depots, etc. Here everything is in 1 area, and that's about it. Strange how different they are with similar population numbers.

Port St Lucie? The metro is a lot higher population I'm sure. There's heavy urban and suburban development to the north, south, and east.

It's a newer city that's having a big population boom.

Maybe so. I looked online and saw the numbers were close. It could be inaccurate.

Sadly, as nice as Columbus is, our city struggles to be "discovered." Internal growth is outstanding, but companies locating here and taking a chance, generally happens AFTER all the other tier-two cities have what we're still waiting for! Once companies DO DISCOVER our fair city, they say, wow, we should have come here sooner!!

Russell and Muscogee County lost a combine total of over 3,400. I want to blame the mayor for pushing BRAC,but it could be large margin of error.

Columbus just dropped to 3rd largest city in Georgia. We know this because the US Census Bureau released county + metro estimates yesterday and Muscogee County lost 2,000 residents between 2016-2017. Their revised chart:

2013: 203,274
2014: 200,714
2015: 198,882
2016: 196,307
2017: 194,058 (released yesterday, 3/22/18)

Richmond County (Augusta) lost around 800 people. Subtracting the other cities in that county (Hephzibah), consolidated Augusta stands to lose a few hundred residents for 2017 but will remain around 196,000-197,000. It becomes 2nd largest.

@Fountain -- There's no such thing as "ACS population estimates." ACS is a survey of social, religious, and language choices (if ACS lists population figures, it's just for reference).

I was thinking about this earlier this morning. I'm beginning to wonder if Columbus ever had 203,000 people? To lose nearly 10,000 in 4 years is scary.
