I would love an outlet in the area although very unlikely absent of a primary interstate along with some other things. Does anyone know how much of a priority the I-14 initiative is for the new mayor?

I'm not quite sure. I checked on his Mayor-Elect's website and saw that he supports the I-14 Initiative.

No way i-14 happening. GDOT has plans to build two large roundabouts on US 80.

I just don’t get that one at all....not having an interstate is one thing, but constructing 2 roundabouts in the middle of a 4 lane divided highway is absolutely absurd IMO. Especially being our only major east-west connector. Columbus and the region at large MUST continue to pass Transpotation-SPLOSTs in order to invest in our infrastructure; GDOT typically does the bare minimum in our area and that’s exactly what we are getting with this project IMO. But I’ll get off of that soap box.

Although I think GDOTs plans in a sense move us further away from the idea of I-14, I still think it “could” happen, but of course many many years down the road if so. If the proposal and initiatives were already in place, I would only hope that city leadership doesn’t abandoned them due to this specific mistake by the GDOT.

I think if GDOT,the state and federal government does move forward with i-14,I see it going through Harris County (assuming the roundabouts are constructed). Or dare I say,Lagrange.

The only enclosed malls that are doing well are the really high end ones (think Lenox or Phipps in ATL) or outlets owned by either Tanger or Simon. Mid-tier malls like Peachtree are struggling throughout the nation.

Columbus had two malls at one time, and couldn't support them both.

The last new indoor mall was built in 2006 - there's not going to be a new one for a while and it certainly won't be built in Columbus.

I don't think we have to worry about that as a possibility. One major point of I-14 is to connect major military installations across the southern US, Going through LaGrange would kind of defeat the purpose of that. I do hope I-14 gets constructed sooner rather than later. I'm excited to see it discussed recently in Columbus news. This is something our leader ship needs to push for on both the state and federal level.

I do agree though they should really have some more thought into possible routes for I-14, those round-abouts could wind up being even more of a wast of money than they are already are if they have to be removed for future interstate development.

I think citizens of Columbus should continue to as about this and keep it in the forefront of the minds of local and state leadership.

Have you seen the traffic thru our mall? I'm amazed it's still open! That place is depressing.
