I would love to see a larger push for recycling. We have a state of art recycle facility. More use of that would slow the need to expand the landfill.

I TOTALLY AGREE! Some cities mandate it! And many cities allow for"single-stream" recycling, which makes it much easier for the person recycling, because everything recyclable is commingled into a single container.
Recycling is definitely better for the planet.

Columbus has been using single-stream recycling for more than a few years now. Anything that is acceptable all goes in the one bin, no need to sort.

That’s good. Hopefully this will encourage more people to recycle.

There is no money in recycling and cities are losing money on it. That is why it hasn't taken off like they thought it would. China isn't buying our recyclables anymore.

There's always going to be money in recycling, it's a commodity and prices rise and fall, just like any other commodity.

Cities don't have to recycle to make money, there are other benefits; less demand on landfills and the societal and environmental positives (for example: people who recycle are less likely to litter). Selling recycling as a money maker or saver for municipalities, like was done in the early 2000s was a mistake, because many people have adopted the mentality that in order to be successful, recycling shouldn't cost anything.

It does and should cost money to recycle; how much depends on market prices. Today recycling earns money on aluminum cans and paper products, but loses money on plastics and glass. But, as world oil prices rise, demand for recycled plastic will increase and that will become profitable again.

Recycling is dying and there is no need to increase the haul that the city is taking.

Well said! I'm a serious recycler and feel good about it. It takes very little effort and is the right thing to do.
Plus, it greatly extends the life of our landfills, and preserves resources for the future. As I understand it, for the energy it takes to make one aluminum can from scratch, 9 aluminum cans can be made with the same amount of energy using recycled aluminum cans! Pretty amazing! Just do it, folks!
