It makes perfect sense why she wanted the high speed rail in Columbus. Atlanta is booming and Tomlinson has always spoke of bringing young professionals to the city. A declining economy and negative job growth this is her way to lure them in live in Columbus cheaply but work in Atlanta’s high tech sector. Plus if Columbus could be the first city to get a high speed rail she leaves a positive mark on the city when she prepares to run for higher state and federal offices.

Looks like WTVM is trolling other media for stories again. Even sadder The Chattahoochee Voice waited two weeks after it was mentioned to council to bring it up in an article. Then WTVM runs the same story 4 days later. Sorry just my rant about how crummy local media is again.

Yeah,an one stop high speed rail going to Atlanta will bring young professionals versus having an airport with a 10 city destination.

I thought that too, it was pretty much the same story. For a moment when I first saw it I thought it was a copy and paste job.

Savannah and Columbus airports are not fair comparisons for many obvious reasons. Savannah is a MAJOR tourist destination, with 8 airlines servicing more than 25 destinations (including ALL THREE airports in both Greater NYC and Greater DC as well as international service via Air Canada to Toronto). That said, NONE of this would exist without AGGRESSIVE marketing and branding by the Savannah airport management and board. It seems obvious that a similar approach would benefit Columbus.

I would be a happy camper if Columbus could AT LEAST get direct service to DC, Charlotte, and Dallas/Ft. Worth. Doesn't have to be daily service---even two or three days a week to each would be very successful, and travelers would book their fights accordingly. To not actively, and widely, promote our airport is insane!

This sort of thing used to be more common. But as airlines merged and, except for Southwest, adopted the hub-and-spoke model, tier-two airports such as Columbus's got the shaft.

Auburn University is not that far away and could be a potential customer if flights didn't just go to Hartsfield-Jackson. But right now there's no reason for anyone to drive from Auburn to catch a connecting flight to Atlanta. Counting the connection time, they could be at Hartsfield-Jackson in less time, with one less connection.

Looks like CSG is in talks with 6 airlines about bringing additional commercial service to the area. Two airlines have reached out directly. Hopefully something good is in the works.

Wow!! Great news!

Just think, if only one additional airline carrier comes here it will be a 100% INCREASE in the number of airlines serving CSG!
