A rezoning case has been requested by Hughston Homes to rezone 528 acres off Hubbard Road, just west of Vulcan Materials off Fortson Road.

With a rezoning of this size, the City of Columbus is required to file a report with the State of Georgia Department of Regional Impact.

The 500 acres will include 425 Single Family Homes, 890 Apartment homes, 5 acres of commercial space, 97 townhouses.

There are very few remaining tracks of land like this in the city. Good to see it put to use.

I don't mind developments but (1) if the Harris County folks that ate David Eriksons lunch hear about this they might freak out and get this ran out of town too because they H A T E Hughston Homes. (2) There is VERY LITTLE access to this. This development really needs to acquire the land to the north to ensure it has direct access to Exit 14, Smith Road. If not, you have to travel up Whitesville to Hubbard or Fortson to Hubbard, both are not "prime real estate" for a commercial Mixed Use. We'll see; This could be another "The Grove" type development that goes no where.

The people living on Hubbard, Fortson, and Whitesville are going to be raising hell over this plan.

Looks like houses and apartments at the northern end of each section will have well over a mile long distance to get to the single entrance/exit on Hubbard Rd. Big yikes.

When/If (BIG if) the plan is 100% built out, there will probably need to be 4 new traffic lights installed, one on either side of 185 and one for the Whitesville and Fortson intersections.
