What are everyone's thoughts on Lancaster, OH? My wife and I may move there or Canal Winchester over the next year or two (from an apartment in Gahanna)?

I work in Dublin and Mapquest says that it would be about an hour drive one way.... I'd probably look for something else in either Pickerington, Canal, Lancaster, Groveport, etc. over time. My wife will soon be working in Lancaster, and that's why we are thinking about the move.... I am okay with a long drive to work if it gets her as close as 5-15 minutes from her job. The fact that I drive about 30-35 minutes now, and she drives about 40 minutes down to Lancaster, just makes us want to move a little closer to one of the jobs.

Those of you who live/lived there, what are your thoughts about the town for a couple in their mid twenties getting ready to start a family and have solid/stable jobs? I've heard that it a nice community with decent schools and plenty to do outdoors.

Also, the housing market looks great for a buyer right now... the houses in the Dominion division, on the NW side of town, that are banked owned are running about 130K-145K for over 2,000 sq ft.

My brother and sister in law live there and I lived there for a couple of months. I hated it when I lived there, but since I'm moved back to Columbus, I've missed it.

As far as I know, there is not really much to do. It is a real quiet down with beautiful scenery. It's landscape is what sets it apart from Columbus. It's got mountains, it's hilly and there's a lot of open country.

It's a place that you can get nostalgic about.

If looking for a cozy safe town with enough amenities when you want to shop or eat out then Lancaster is ideal. It is an hr away from most Columbus malls, but their little mall is decent, and plenty of chain and local restaraunts. There is lots of outdoor activities and some small towns south that are fun to visit. I would check out Logan during the Washboard festival and Athens during Halloween. Hocking Hills area are beautiful in the fall.

If me or my wife landed a job in that area we would move there immediatley.

Edit: correction for above poster, it does not have any real mountains, it is all just hills.

That is a picture of mount pleasant. You can see it from just about anywhere in the city. I stayed there with an ex fiancee and it was some of the best times of my life.

I wouldn't move to Lancaster if I were single, though, but if I had a wife or girlfriend and wanted to settle down with her, it's a perfect place to get away.

Just because the name has mount in it, does not mean it is a mountain. By definition Ohio does not have any mountains.

–noun 1. a natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2000 ft. (610 m).

Mount Pleasant is 200 ft

The highest point in Ohio is 1549 ft, which is Campbell Hill.

Did I say in my second post that it was a mountain? You're reading way too much into things.

Just seemed a little odd you post right after me with a link to a photo trying to contradict what I said.

Anyway, Mt. Pleasant is very cool to go up and Lancaster is a very fun area if you like the outdoors. It is a mix of central Ohio attitude and south eastern Ohio attitude.

Again, you are reading into things. Everything doesn't revolve around you. I was giving the thread starter a glimps of some of the landscape in Lancaster.

Haha, why do you keep caring what I post? I explained why I posted what I did, and in the mean time I corrected all those people who think mountains existed in Ohio.
