Transferred to Lancaster 6 years ago..........love it ! Great downtown area, fairgrounds with many activities through the year, nice city and metro parks, Hocking Hills nearby with great hiking, beautiful scenery.......decent schools, have two daughters at Tarhe elementary, many churches to choose from, really love it here. We are being transferred again and hate to leave. Many of the city and metro parks have nice fishing for kids..........Chestnut Ridge, Cinci Park, Lake Logan, Alley Park to name a few..........Tree lined streets with older homes, but also newer subdivisions as well.
Good luck finding your perfect place...........

Default reply for Lancaster Native

This is the first year we have not taken much part in the festivities of the Lancaster Festival...........heard the fireworks the other night and could just barely see some of them from the front yard. We are in the process of planning a move South so things are not as usual around here. Plus, we have a one year old, so work around her schedule............Maybe we will still be here come Fair time and do more then. Will miss Lancaster.........hope we can find a similar town to call home in S.C.............

My vote is for Mount Vernon. I recently moved to this lovely community and have found nothing negative so far. It has all of the features you are looking for including a newly renovated historic Woodward Opera House which also hosts impromptu stage performances. Read more about Mount Vernon at Real Estate news and information for the non-professional at Home Locator. I actually like it so much that I am having trouble deciding to move back to the NW where I vowed to return some 20 years ago. Good luck with your search.

Default Mount Vernon Information

We are possibly being transferred to Mount Vernon and need some information. How are property taxes, low or high? What about utilities? I realize in the winter they will be higher but what is an average bill for a 2000 sq. ft house? Any more information on the town would be appreciated.

Default Granville or Westerville

I love GranVille and Live in Westerville. Both are great.

Westerville is in delaware county. My wife and I live close to hoover resevoir where there are sailboats out all day in the spring and summer. We are also very close to alum creek (10 minutes away) where we can camp and boat.

Westerville has a great main street with great little shops including a coffee shop, clock repair, amish furniture, several great restaurants, a dog grooming salon and much more.

We have the westerville rec center for excercise and swimming and some of the highest rated school systems in the state.

A few months ago Hillary clinton and Barrock Obama were here within 5 miles of our house which we thought was very cool.

Voted #41 in money magazines top 100 places to live in 2007 and 15 minutes outside of Columbus...its hard to beat.

We love it!

My husband grew up in Mt. Gilead, though we now live in Mass. (WHY are you leaving? I LOVE it here...we're in W.Mass, though--very different from the rest of the state). Anyway, he says Mt. Gilead has almost ALL the things you asked for: clean, tree-lined streets, a town common, no gazebo but a miniature Washington Monument (obelisk?), non-touristy shops, a lake at the Mt. Gilead State Park, 1 mile from town, and many other good fishing spots in Morrow Cty., unpretentious people, festivals such as --no joke!--World's Largest Gourd Festival!

The stately old homes you wanted are more out in the country, housing costs are MUCH cheaper than in Mass.

One thing to mention, he says, is that it's a very conservative area, but that HE wasn't conservative and never got hassled.

If you want to see what the terrain looks like, watch "The Shawshank Redemption" and the outdoor scenes were filmed in Mansfield, 20 min. from Mt. Gilead...giving you a good look at the landscape.

We'll miss you, fellow Bay-Stater!
