Honestly I don’t think you’ll like Columbus in comparison to the other places you’ve lived. It’s not very diverse. There isn’t a decent population of upper class black people. I’m one of the few blank people in my neighborhood. I went to the park and was the only black person there. I’m one of the only black people with a high salary at my job or on my floor for that matter. And I think because of this white here people treat you like you don’t belong it’s pretty awful. I don’t know why any black person would want to live here. I’ve lived in Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Orlando, palm beach, and Chicago and Columbus is the worst and by far the most racist.

Don't forget that you have to be Christian also.

I'm Buddhist. When they found out I was not Christian I got invited to bible study groups and religious leaflets mysteriously showed up on my desk. And this was with a very large company.

Lol... first, this thread is 9 years old. Wherever the person moved, it happened years ago. Second, anecdotes don’t make things true. Columbus is about 28% black and the number continues to grow every year. Must be some reason for that. It will likely be or close to being a minority-majority city by 2020.

I’m an atheist and lived there just fine. Columbus is one of the least religious cities according to surveys. This ridiculous picture you’re painting of it being in the Bible Belt is just not supportable, even if you experienced a few people talking to you about Jesus. In fact, it sounds like a completely harmless act that you’re trying to make into religious persecution. Come on.

Absolutely, It was a completely harmless act. Never said it wasn't
From multiple people asking me to bible study, to the people coming to the door, to the bible versus hung on my bosses wall, to the pamphlets left on my desk.

I truly believe that every one of those people was being kind and reaching out to me. I wasn't angry at them. I never suggested persecution. I knew they were trying to help and be kind. I liked that.

But at the same time I can find it creepy and it made me uncomfortable.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

And, of course, others may have different defining experiences:

There was a high school in the suburb of Columbus that outlawed dancing

Security cameras caught a man painting anti-Islamic graffiti on the doors of the Ahlul-Bayt Society Islamic Center while people were worshipping inside, including the phrases: “Allah Is A Fraud Dum Dum” and: “Repent Turn To True God + Jesus Or Burn 4 Ever.”

If it was at a large company, you could’ve gone to HR about it. A bunch of people going after you about religion is probably not policy-supported. And it’s also just weird. I lived in Columbus like 30 years and never had anyone bother me about religion like that. Not that I didn’t see or hear people talking about it sometimes, but it was just passing references like an experience at church or in the subject of plans. Religion is just not that overt in the city. Now, once you get out past the Franklin County border, that’s a different story. Rural Ohio is pretty conservative. In any case, I’m not discounting your experience, just that I don’t think it’s at all representative. There will always be intolerant racists and bigots no matter where you live, especially lately in this political situation where you have a president promoting bigotry and violence.

Being invited to a bible study is a show of hospitality and friendship. If you don't want to, just say so (politely). I personally think it's great when people actually believe their religion and show it outwardly. I don't think you'd say the same thing about Muslim women wearing hijabs ("Creepy", "uncomfortable").

Link? Source?

Who are having milkshakes thrown on them because it's "not violent" again?

Who was attacked with a bike lock to a head?

Who was kidnapped and tortured on Facebook Live in Chicago?

Who faked a beating in Chicago and would have happily framed an innocent white guy?

I mean I can go on. The left is WAY more violent and intolerant than the right. It's not even close. And it's because you've dehumanized people with whom you disagree so most of you loons don't even see it as violent, because "they're Nazis!!!" and hurting Nazis!!! is A-OK.

I could post endless links about things said and done by Trump that support my statement, along with the fact that white nationalism violence has skyrocketed the past few years, but I know this is a waste of time. You won't read the links, and even if you did, you'll simply find a way to excuse it while calling Democrats the real problem. Just as you did here. The pattern is familiar, and there is nothing to be gained by engaging. I can't do anything about what people believe.
