Hello all,
It looks like my family (husband, wife and 2 elementary age boys) will be moving to the Columbus area in the next 6 months. My husband will be working on Boltonfield St in what looks like the southwest airport section of Columbus. Since he is already outside the loop I thought commute time wise we should keep outside it looking for housing-
Looking for community orientated, family friendly, bike riding, walk able downtown areas within 30 minutes of his work. Would Dublin work? Or during the peak times do the roads get backed up? Are there other areas closer?
In the past threads here it said the "levy" was not passed in Hilliard therefore the schools are not as good as Dublin?
Also, I will be a stay at home mom- what areas should I look for? I really do not want to be the only one in my town who stays at home!
Thanks so much. We will only get 2 days in which to buy a house and I want to make sure I am concentrating on the right areas.

Actually, Hilliard's levy passed and Dublin's levy failed last November. Dublin's overall standardized test scores are a bit higher than Hilliard's, but both are highly rated. I will be glad to follow up with more info in the next couple of days.

If your husband is going to commute to the airport area, Dublin/Hilliard are on the opposite side of the city and it would mean the longest commute possible in Columbus (which admittedly would still not be bad). Other good schools would include Worthington, Westerville, New Albany, Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights and Bexley, and all of them would be a shorter commute.

Edit: I just realized you said Bolton Field. In that case, Westerville and New Albany would be furthest away.

Thank you both! Any idea on commute times at peak for both areas?

Let's say you lived in New Albany and were travelling to Bolton Field during rush hour. The commute would be anywhere between 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. New Albany is the furthest away and on the extreme northeast side. Any other location would be less than that. Hilliard, for example, would probably be 20 minutes.

Dublin is considered an elite suburb, full of amenities. Your price range will determine where in Dublin you might want to start looking. Dublin City School District covers most of the City of Dublin, except the southwestern portion of the City of Dublin, which is actually in the Hilliard City School District. There are also portions of the City of Columbus, which are in the Dublin City School District. Probably seems confusing, but in the Columbus metro area, school district boundaries don't necessarily (actually, usually do NOT) align with municipal corporation limits.

20 min?? That's great! He commute is a hour here on a good day!
Dublin is elite? Excuse me for asking but is it snobby? I liked all the amenities it seems to have but we are a pretty down to earth family- might we not fit in?
Thank you.

you cannot go wrong in dublin...if you want dublin-esque..without the pricetag..then drive a mile or so and go into powel (sp?). I have family in dublin and WISH that something would open up so we could move there. I dont think dublin is snobby at all..its just a nice town, clean town, good kids, with everything close by. School are very highly rated as well. Like I said, if you just want the good influence of dublin..with a slightly less price tag..then hit the towns that directly surround it!

We rented in Dublin when we first relocated to Columbus. Its not snobby. Its a wonderful place to raise a family. Honestly, I haven't found any area in or around Columbus to be snobby.

I agree. You can't go wrong with Dublin to raise a family in Columbus.

If you need help in your move, let me know and we can give you an estimate.
