Hi I'm moving to Columbus with my boyfriend in November. I have an MPH with 16+ years of experience, but most of it is running large overseas health programs. How difficult is it to get into Ohio State government, especially at the Planning Administrator 2/3/4 levels? Is there any point to applying before my address officially becomes Columbus or will I be automatically disqualified for not yet living in Ohio? Any other organizations running major public health programs that I might look at in Columbus? In general, how's the job environment there?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Ohio Hiring Management System

Above is the website for the state of Ohio. I have a friend with and MPH and he works for Ohio State Medical Center. There are a lot of other companies in the area likely to hire someone with your background. Cardinal Health would be the largest of them.

Thanks! I saw two postings on the Ohio Hiring Management System - I think they are called "Planning Administrator 3/4" which is clearly a deputy administrator level. I'm wondering how competitive those positions are. In DC there would be no point in applying - here is a line of 20 people within the system that are already lineup so you might as well apply for an assistant position and hope to move up - but government here is super competitive. I suppose I'll just apply and see what happens. Thanks for the tip on Cardinal Health, I'll check them out!

just my thoughts , try the city of Columbus, the State of Ohio, Ohio State University, Cardinal (as mentioned), Battelle, Ohio Health or Mt Carmel or Childrens Hospital (the 1st two are the larger hospital systems in C-bus, not sure if the positions you are looking for would be found here). Also try the Ohio Means Jobs website. It's supposed to be a comprehesive listing of state and local and privite. Never know what you'll find. Good luck!
