Did any of you notice the mistakes in this episode?
In this episode, the Griffins go to Columbus to an amusement park, and then get lost in Amish Country (Holmes County) where their car brakes down. The mistakes would be in the beginning. There isn't an amusement park like that in Columbus, so are they referencing King's Island. That would be more of Cincinnati than Columbus, and why did Stewie ask Brian if he was trash? I never got that. I just want to hear what locals think. Thank you for the input.

This is the first part:

This is the second part:

I'm not sure what they meant by the trash part. Maybe because they're too poor to have a real vacation so they have to go to Columbus, OH?

I thought the episode was pretty funny though (haven't seen the whole thing in awhile). I was kinda wondering where they got the idea for the amusement park since that's in Cincinnati or Sandusky. Maybe they were thinking of Zoombezi Bay?

Either way, they even got the Holmes County/Amish Country part wrong. I mean, it's backwoods, deep rural, and nasty. But, it's more than just one Amish town. I don't know. It's a bit off.

They don't write the storyline to be factually accurate. They pick a random location that is big enough most people have heard of it but small enough most people haven't been to it and then insert it into whatever narrative they have already come up with. The Amish part is probably because people have a vague notion there are Amish people in Ohio.

So in this situation they need somewhere big enough people have heard of it but somewhere no one would seriously consider to be a vacation location and boom, you have Columbus. There may also be someone on the writing staff that wants to give a quick nod to their hometown (or something like that).

It's the same reason George Costanza flew to Akron in Seinfeld, why 10 Items or Less was set in Dayton, and why Third Rock from the Sun was set in a fictional town "52 miles outside of Cleveland." They all provide a vague setting based on viewers preconceived notions without having to spend much if any time being factual about any of it.

The amish part was the entire stroryline pretty much after Peter being too far to ride a roller coaster.

Seeking factual geography from a cartoon, are we? The "trash" joke was in reference to centering a family vacation around an amusement park.

1. Being specific all of the time, this does tend to annoy me.

2. A lot of vacationers from Ohio center their vacation around Disney, an amusement park.
