This is strictly out of curiosity since I don't live in Ohio, but do the local Columbus TV stations usually show the Bengals or the Browns on TV?

Generally they show the Browns early on, and when they are irrelevant by midseason, they show the Bengals. Also, anytime either team plays the Steelers, that game is aired because the Steelers are the 3rd largest fan base in Columbus. It goes: 1. Cleveland 2. Cincinnati 3. Pittsburgh. Unfortunately for Bengals fans like myself, there is more overlap with Browns games than usual this year -- at least 7, possibly 9 because they play on the same network at 1 and 4:15 twice and CBS and Fox alternate weekly which one shows 2 games. Also, if Manziel takes over as starter, that will boost their ratings and make the local stations more likely to show the Browns over the Bengals.

Another thing that's annoying about being a Bengals fan is that most of the bar owners/managers seem to be Browns fans. Even when the Browns are televised locally and the Bengals are blacked out, most bars will show the Browns on the big screens and use the Browns game for the audio. You have to seek out good Bengals bars. I am contemplating switching to DirecTV so I can get Sunday Ticket...

How in the heck are the Clowns shown over the Bengals when the Bengals have actually been a playoff caliber team the last few yrs and the Clowns have been the door mat of the AFC North. I'd show the Squealers or Colts over the Clowns even....

The Browns are definitely more popular than the Bengals and it's reflected in who appears on tv. There are a couple reasons why, despite their ineptitude, the Browns remain more popular 1) the Browns have been around far longer than the Bengals and therefore have an extra generation or two of fans and 2) there a ton of northeast Ohio transplants in Columbus, and they bring their Cleveland allegiances with them.

I think, if they had to choose, people from Columbus would identify more with Cleveland than Cincinnati, with sports only being part of the equation.

I guess those are your choices.. Since cbus doesn't have an NFL franchise.

The browns own 90% of ohio even Dayton has a lot of browns fans, being originally from Denver ...I wear my number 7 jersey just to stick it to Cleveland.I go to a lot more bengals games than browns games..I hate the browns.Yes columbus doesn't nave an nfl team but ohio st is a lot bigger spectacle than the browns or the bengals..There really is no comparison..now my broncos are very similar in their market to the buckeyes..almost a college atmosphere..similarly hard to get season tickets.

I grew up in Cleveland, and years of total ineptitude turned me off of them completely...Cincinnati has the far better far more watchable team and is actually closer to Columbus...when I first came to OSU back in the late 90s, there was no Browns team (they were the Ravens) and a lot of people rooted for the Bengals (they sucked then)...but since they Browns have returned...the Bengals have been the better team...they should get more airplay. I'd much rather watch a playoff caliber team than a team that can't score and will once again be lucky to win 5 games.

To build on this topic, what are the Bengals bars in Columbus? I'm going to finally have time to watch more games on Sundays and would like to be among like-minded fans. Nothing wrong with being surrounded by Browns and Steelers fans but that gets old. :P

There is a group called Columbus Bengals Nation -- as of last season, they met at the Crazee Mule Saloon, which ironically is on Cleveland Ave. in the Westerville area. I went to a game or two there and it was a good time. They put the game on the big screen and play the audio through their PA system. Cheap beer from what I recall. The food was nothing to write home about, but got the job done. I would maybe give the Crazee Mule a call and confirm that they are doing it again this year. Here are links for the bar and the Columbus Bengals Nation Facebook page:
