I'm in a bad way with my feet right, I've been rendered physically lame over the last four years. Hopefully come spring, all the surgeries will be done and I'll need to find work. The problem is I need real advice on what the **** to do. I've never been able to find work since leaving college. The economy started to improve just as my feet gave out. I have no experience, no specific skill set, and there's nothing on God's green earth I want to do that I can do with my POS Liberal Arts degree. I was headed to Law School, but then discovered that yes, Lawyers are evil. I don't have an occupation, I resent having to work and as I've discovered no amount of poverty will make we want to. I need to find someone not to help me to find a job, COWIC could do that, but actually assess what I can do with my education and temperament, including what grad schools I could go to with a liberal arts degree. If college were free, I'd go and get training in the sciences , if certifications worked differently, I'd become an engineer by apprenticeship.

I need someone who doesn't look for easy easy answers or normal channels, I don't prosper in them. And I have no idea how to find such people, let alone pay for them, although I have a little scratch for the occasion. All I know is I want upper middle class pay and upper middle class respect. Everyone has a price and mine is 60K median.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried doing some reading on your own? The book 48 Days to the Work You Love is great. I believe the author also has a career coaching service. It's a very positive book but with a relgious bent. Even if you're not religious, you can get a lot out of it. You might also try doing various personality and skills tests like Myers Briggs and Disc to get some direction.

Good luck!

Oh by the way, I am a lawyer

Law school is very expensive and the earning potential often does not justify going, so it may be for the best you decided not to go. Plus, you're right there are a lot of cray cray lawyers.

JJ:

While I appreciate the book advice, I'm not even at that level. I've got personality issues; I makes milquetoast people fear for their lives. I'm not kidding. I'm intense and warlike, loud at times (and it only take once) and I'm not deferential to authority (not disrespectful but I'll fight what for what I think is right).

I haven't read this book, but I've read books like this. They don't help. I need actual appraisal and coaching on what I'm capable of and what fields/companies will see me as worthwhile. I'm clearly a bad cog, but with only a liberal arts degree I don't see how I can find a non-cog job. No book can give the pinpoint advice I need.
