Hello,

I am mid-30s single male who is contemplating moving to Granville area for work. Currently, I live in eastern PA (Lehigh Valley). So, I think weather-wise it should be similar.

I see there are several forums for married couples with kids. My question is what are the recommendations for singles? I don't care much about school district at this point in my life.

Lehigh Valley has like ~700k population compared to ~6k for Granville. I am assuming I should move to one of the neighborhoods of Columbus. If so, which neighborhoods are recommended?

Ideally, I don't want to drive more than 20minutes to/from work. (My current commute is 5min. That would be tough to beat...haha). So, that would put New Albany on the map.

Currently, I spend time hiking during warmer months (nothing hardcore). I also enjoy boardgames, dining out (even though I am vegan), playing (poorly) recreational sports (tennis, volleyball, softball...). I moved to my current location too. Thanks to meetup I was able to meet people and make some friends. I am not much into drinking and clubbing ... I can't dance to save my life.

Oh, I don't follow religion. So, that takes out one of the mediums of meeting people.

So, any inputs on locations that would allow me to easily meet other people?

Thanks for any help!
J

New Albany's probably the best way to achieve your 20 minute commute, but it's an expensive suburb that's mostly high-end residential.

You have to get closer to 270 to find more vibrant commerce. Westerville or the area around Easton are probably closer to what you're looking for. They're more like a 30-minute commute to Granville.

You can find some apartments in the newer sparwl of development along North Hamilton Road between OH-161 and Morse Road. This puts you closer to Granville but keeps you in the mix of apartments and condos that tend to attract young professionals working the Easton, Airport and Westerville side of Columbus.

Lifestyle Communities has a decent rate of younger renters, or so I have heard. And their marketing materials tend to lean towards young professionals in their tenant scope. They have a few communities along with some others spread between New Albany proper and I-270 and Morse. I would try to stay east of N. Hamilton and north of Morse Roads to better maximize your commute.

While schools don't matter for you, just bear in mind that area is a hodgepodge makeup of random lines conspiring between Westerville, New Albany and Columbus schools. Rent will be slightly higher under my guess for Westerville zoned places and even higher for New Albany.

Apartments and condos here will range between $800-900 up to and past $2K per month. This is dependent of course on need for bedrooms (1, 2, 3+?) baths, den (if needed) and carport/garage. I would recommend if you get anything, find a place that offers a carport or garage. Heavens know I hate clearing my car of snow and it provides shade and protection in the summer.

Finally, age of community would play a factor here. Most places in the area I have mentioned are 20 years or newer.

Granville is part of the Greater Newark area, which sits at about 70,000 residents. Granville isn't an ideal place to live if you are single. Newark and Heath are your best option if you are looking for that. You might want to check out the renaissance of Downtown Newark if you are seriously considering moving to this area, otherwise, you might want to look more towards Columbus. If you have any other questions about the Newark/Heath/Granville area just ask and i can answer them.

Newark is a no for me. Heath is a no.
Granville is darling but I could not live there as I would be on the road too much driving to the metro area for everything.
