Next year I will likely be attending grad school at OSU and I wanted to get some advice about finding an apartment. I'm hoping I can find a decent area that is within short walking distance to campus, but unfortunately I know nothing about Columbus and therefore have no idea what areas I should be looking at.

I've been giving it some thought and I guess I don't need to be in walking distance as I could always catch the bus.

There have been a lot of posts about "safe" areas close to campus, pros and cons of each. You will be able to find a lot of info if you search the forum.

I would suggest looking into Grandview or the Short North and take the bus. If you want to be closer than that, I would recommend staying west of High street in south campus.

Short walking distance is going to put you in either Clintonville, or East/South campus. Clintonville is probably the most subdued of the three if you that's what you're looking for. Most of the rentals are single family homes divided in half in Clintonville. There's a lot of apartment brokers on campus who can tell you what's available for what price... that's how I went about finding an apartment when I was at OSU.

That's how I did it too...there are many property managers that can show you what they have avail near campus.
