Hello,
I bought this laptop about 6 months ago. It's an HP Pavilion and so far I'm very satisfied with it. However, recently something with my CPU went wrong. I used to play games and talk to my friends on Skype at the same time, but I can't do it right now, the laptop freezes and I have to take the battery out and switch it on again. The CPU used to be normally around 7%, right now it's on 15%, but when I open for example Skype, it quickly goes up to 80% and than back on like 30% and is stable there. Yesterday, I found a trojan on the computer, it has gotten a bit better since then, but it still crashes when I play and talk on Skype at the same time. I tried Avira, Windows Essentials and AVG and only AVG found a trojan. Does anyone know what shall I do?
Thanks a lot!
MJay

Define "crashes"
BSOD?
Lock up?
power off?
When a program is launched it is normal for the CPU utilization to spike, it's busy getting the app up and running, starting supporting .dll's, etc.

Totally freezes due to CPU being on 100%.

Sort the tasks running in the task manager processes tab by clicking on the CPU column header so the maximum utilization is at the top, which should normally be 'system idle process' , then see what image name is at 100% when it stops responding.

Thank you for the tip!
I tried to open many Google Chrome windows at one time and see what is was going to do, but there was nothing but Google Chrome at the CPU column. Not any different programme or application.

Skype is peer-to-peer and can use up resources. I dumped it.

1- go to bios ----> load setup defaults------> save and exit .
2- when windows loads ( start -----> run -----> msconfig -----> go to startup tab -----> deselect all entries -----> ok ) restart
If that doesnt help, it's hardware.
