My down button on my Toshiba satellite laptop stopped working this weekend. Is this common on a laptop and how can I fix it or will this involve a techie to fix it?

First, make sure it doesn't work in any application. If the key is bad, it'll likely mean replacing the keyboard. Keyboards are usually pretty easy to replace but you'll want to track down the service manual on your laptop to guide you.

You likely will require a keyboard replacement, laptop keyboards generally aren't serviceable.

That's like asking how much a new radiator costs for a car, it varies from model to model, but expect to pay $30 to over a hundred.
