Does anyone need any more proof you should build your own system?

A lawsuit aiming to stop rental company Aaron’s in the US from installing spyware on its machines – whose capability includes taking images of users with a PC’s webcam – has hit a setback, with a judge refusing to grant a preliminary injunction against the practise.
This is confusing: "As part of the action, they had sought an injunction which, among other things, would preventAaron’s from activating the software; contacting any members of the proposed class action; or deleting the PC Rental Agent from its computers."
Isn't that backwards?
I have to wonder if the judge is senile or has ties to someone at Aaron's.
I have two computers with webcams. One is in the living room and has a post-it over it when its not in use. The other is on a netbook that isn't used much and it came with a physical shutter.
I'm not really sure that the judge's decision is what the headline of the article makes it out to be. Old Suzy is saying she can't issue an injunction cause the police have the laptop so therefore there is no harm to the plantiffs. That may sound like Catch 22 bullcrap but the law is full of stuff like that. Doesn't mean the judge is corrupt, senile or saying companies can spy unfettered.
I'm not a lawyer, though, I'm just a caveman who fell into some water and was frozen. Later, I was found by your scientists and thawed out.
Why would be people renting from them when they know they are being spied on like that? It makes no sense to me to even rent a PC/Laptop when you can get a new one for a few hundred bucks these days.
Here is the flip side, people who would probably react to this by saying "WTF?" are probably having cell phone conversations at public places loud enough to be heard by most passing by or have fairly unsecured Facebook accounts or even have some sort of a political bumper sticker.
It is amazing how much information of you that you might consider "personal" is freely available to anyone out there some we know about and some we are actually contributing ourselves. We leave traces all over the place everyday, both offline and online, without even knowing.
It rarely makes any financial sense to rent from Aaron's but a lot of people don't realize that.
A lot of poor people are still poor because they pay $25/week for 5 years for a $300 PC because they can't come up with the $300 up front.
