I have Adobe Reader, IE and Firefox. I can open PDFs in Reader in either IE or Firefox.
My question is, I thought an Adobe Reader addon would appear in my IE addon list. However, the only Adobe addon in IE is PDF Link Helper.
I experimented by disabling the PDF Link Helper - IE STILL loaded a PDF/Reader page inside itself.
Does this mean that IE doesn't necessarily have to have Adobe Reader listed as an addon in order to open a Reader window inside?
My Firefox, on the other hand, does list Adobe Acrobat as an addon.
(I have Vista - if you know answers to the above, is it the same between XP and Vista?)

Update: I went to IE's Manage Addons and clicked on "Show" and selected "Run without permission." Adobe Reader is listed there.
What's the idea - why is there a subcategory called Run without permission?

I can't answer that question, but the first thing I do, on my computers, is open adobe reader and uncheck the option to display in the browser. I like it better that way.

Let me rephrase. When I look at my IE add-ons, and I select "Show: All Add-ons," I see certain add-ons like Flash, but when I select "Show: Run without permission," I see other add-ons; a few add-ons are listed in both places.
For example, in the first listing, Adobe PDF Link Helper is listed, but in the second listing, I see Adobe Reader.
This is in the official help page:
To display add-ons that were pre-approved by Microsoft, your computer manufacturer, or a service provider, click Run without permission.

Hmmmmm thats interesting...
I kinda like having it show up like it was a webpage in my browser
What are the reasons you like it in the reader itself?

It's been a while but I recall when it would always cause my browser to hang. I discovered the setting way back then and always keep doing it. I prefer the way it works over viewing in the browser. If you like it, that's fine, but I don't.
