I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a computer problem that I am having.

My wife bought a Sponge Bob digital camera for my son's birthday. Instead of waiting for me to install the drivers and associated program on our computer, she did it herself. Well, she ended up installing it on our desktop. I doubt very much that this was the program default location.

So, I decided to clean it up by uninstalling the program files from the desktop and reinstalling them in their own (default) folder. I double clicked on the "uninstall" icon and the program immediately began removing file after file, with no option to cancel the uninstall. Suddenly I noticed that it was indiscriminantly removing ALL OF OUR FILES ON THE DESKTOP, not just the SpongeBob files. When it was over the desktop was practically blank. It even removed files within folders that were linked to the desktop.

How can I recover this? I have no system image from an earlier date. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

If you go to C:\Users\<your username> and right-click "Desktop" and go to "restore previous versions" - is there a previous version you can use?

You can try this:

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

Before you can get to "Restore previous versions" you have to go to Properties and then the Previous Versions tab first. At least you do on my PC. Also, using System Restore does not restore persona files. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...System-Restore

I'm a little dubious that this program started removing files and that there wasn't some other problem but I guess stranger things have happened.

No, I didn't. I was talking to bs13690 who said "Before you can get to "Restore previous versions" you have to go to Properties and then the Previous Versions tab first. At least you do on my PC"

I have Windows 7 and this is what I see. There is a tab, but it opened to that tab automatically.

Sounds crazy at first, but imagine an installer program that when instructed to remove the program, deletes everything in the installation directory, and then (attempts to) delete the installation directory. Then install the program in C:\Users\YourName\Desktop instead of C:\Program Files\ProgramName.

OP did say the program was installed "on our desktop".

Makes sense since the default installation folder was the desktop, it is nothing more than another folder......
