Half the world uses them because that's what is included by default in Windows. That does not mean that they are safe. IE is well known to be insecure. You're much better off with Firefox.

An anonymous website? I hope your not posting to this that "anonymous" website on your work pc. We IT guys can read everything you send over the company network. Just thought you might like to know.

Did you ever hear of shutting down a company's whole computer network because it might rain? We're not on the coast where the hurricane will be, but like 50 miles inland. But we somehow can't withstand a temporary power outage? Something's amiss.
It's not a regular thing to do, but perhaps they think the power will be out longer than their backup power supply can last. It's much better to bring the network down gently than it is to let it shut down all at once because of no power or air conditioning.

As far as your Adobe vs Foxit rant...well others have already covered it. Adobe is bloated, slow to launch and full of security holes that must constantly be patched. If you really do care about safe, then you would understand that and take five minutes out of your oh so busy day to learn the program. It's a pdf reader, not Photoshop.

All I get from your posts is you getting upset because "OMG THIS IS DIFFERENT! I CAN'T HANDLE A SMALL CHANGE! IT'S ALL I.T.'s FAULT! WHY ARE THEY OUT TO GET ME?"

But for years we had to put up with Groupwise because it was supposedly safer (maybe hackers never heard of it, so didn't develop viruses that would hit it, but they couldn't attacke telegraph lines either). We also had to hear how Groupwise was so much better "behind the scenes," menaing the stuff IT could see that none of us care about. We just wanted our e-mails to go through, to receive e-mails, and to be able to open our attachments. It took multiple complaints from State officials (whose butts we must regularly kiss) who could not communicate with program directors in my company because of our "superior" e-mail system before they finally changed it.
Because half the world is like you and will use anything installed by default?

No I waited to post from home or from my phone. And even though most IT people could see where I go online, ours are doubtful. I had to do an investigation of an overnight staff person allegedly looking at porn all night long, and IT couldn't even trace where this one person had gone online. Believe me, I warn employees all the time about IT being able to see what they do online, just to keep them on their toes, but IT has repeatedly been unable to do this. They could not even recover inappropriate e-mails that an employee had sent and then deleted from her "sent items."

No, I wasn't upset because it was "different" (that's not my M.O.) but because I can not do something essential in Foxit that I could do in Adobe.

I looked at my Adobe Acrobat here at home, and it's just a reader, but I can still copy out of a pdf and paste text elsewhere. I don't need an editor if I don't want to "edit" the actual pdf. (I'm not going to edit state regulations as much as I wish I could). It's exactly what I used to have at work. There is an option where you can get rid of the "hand" cursor and switch to "select" and then you can copy & paste. So I don't need, nor did I ever need, a special pdf editor. So why does Foxit reader not have that function? It's basically "read only".

I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who needs to copy text out of pdfs and paste it elsewhere. And this isn't something so esoteric that the IT people wouldn't know or undertand it. I could see if I were using some sophistocated program like for engineering or design or something. Then I wouldn't expect IT to have expertise in it. But with things like pdf readers, Excel, etc, they should know the basics. Especially since they are the ones who are supposed to train people.

Your making it harder than it needs to be. Did you RTFM? Here is the Foxit user manual. Jump to page 60 and it explains how to copy text and paste it. It's pretty simple really.

The horrors, your expecting and end user to actually educate themselves on how to use a product rather than just whine and blame someone else? That's unheard of!

Let's see on one hand, five minutes to learn how a new program works. On the other hand, getting upset for weeks over something trivial. I know which one I'd choose.

It took me all of five minutes to find that user guide and post it here. There was a direct link to the pdf on the first page Google returned.

For those that don't know, if you have to use a program your not familiar with, launch the program and then press F1. That should bring up a help menu. If that doesn't work, there is a help menu in the menu bar at the top of your window. Open it and it will tell you what you need to know.

Oh, TracySam...your welcome.

Well, thanks I guess, but I can't open it here at home. I don't have Foxit at home and evidently Acrobat won't open the document. I'll try at work.

I WOULD have looked up how to copy and paste if we had access to the manual. But we don't as far as I can tell.

But most people don't read manuals and directions, but "poke around" and just figure things out. Yes, I'm sure my saying that pisses you off, but it's true, and you all probably do the same thing yourself but just don't say it. I never read a manual for Acrobat. Never needed to. I just want something on the tool bar where I can click an icon and do what I want. Seriously, that's not too much to ask. I don't want to have to read a bunch of directions. And the "Help" menu stinks, at least on the version we have.

Feel free to start a rant thread on "I love Foxit" if you feel like my opinion needs to be counterbalanced. But I stand by my opinion.

I'll try the manual at work, but if it's not as simple as copying and pasting in acrobat, then I'll come back and say so. If it involves any extra steps, I'll come back and say so. If it completely shocks me by being as easy and obvious as the function in Acrobat, I'll admit it, no problem. I can be wrong and still hate the program...And still think my IT people are idiots. If total strangers end up being able to answer a question my whole IT dept could not answer in over 6 months, then you'll surely agree with me.
