Guess I am not savvy enough with my google-fu....I need a new USB cord for my camera and can't figure out by searching stores online if the cords are specific to a certain camera, or if I can just drop in a Best Buy or somewhere and buy a universal cable. (Searching store sites isn't getting me anywhere, or I'm using incorrect search terms.)

Took a butt-load of photos at the Renaissance festival today, came home and discovered the end of the cord that connects to the camera is bent. So I'm not getting anything when plugging the camera into the computer to download the photos.

Anybody know? FTR, it's a Canon SD1100 IS, nothing fancy.

Yes, I found those already, thanks.

Guess I should have been more specific: Is this something I can go to my local Best Buy/Staples/etc and just buy? Or is this some sort of esoteric item I can only find online? If the former, I'll do it tomorrow. If the latter, I'll order tonight, but I'd rather not wait if I don't have to.

If the picture/description is correct then yes, that is a standard USB/mini USB cable which can be purchased at any of those mentioned stores.

I have an SD1300 and SD940 and both use standard USB A to mini B cables.

Not sure about Canon but I have 3 different Olympus cameras, each one takes what you would 'think' is a standard cable.

The only problem is .. The part that plugs into the camera itself varies in size so that .. one size, does Not fit all!

I'd check if I were you before buying.

Problem solved. I'm a dork.

The cable wasn't plugged into the computer. Yes, the end that fits into the camera is bent, so I just assumed it wasn't working. I checked again this morning and remembered I'd plugged my phone into the computer, thus had unplugged the camera.

So, yay. I got my Ren fest photos downloaded this morning!

Just about every camera uses the standard USB mini connection, as far as I'm aware. I haven't seen one in the last 5 years that had a proprietary connector.

I never connect the camera to my computer to download photos. I use a memory card reader instead. It is usually faster and neater.

Despite the claim to be a standard mini USB connection, I've found over the years that there are often slight variations in the size or shape of one device's connector vs. another's, such that the cable for one doesn't work for the other.
