Not sure if this is possible but I'll ask.

I have three laptops all with 802.11g wireless cards in them. They can all access the internet via my home network when I am at home. But what if I am not at home (like I am now, at my 88 year old mom's house with no internet)?

One of my laptops also has a built in 3G card in it which I use to access the internet from cell towers just about anywhere (like here now).

Essentially we have people (my wife and kids) waiting in line to use the internet on the 3G laptop but I want to see if others could have their own internet connections on the other laptops even if the connection is slow since sharing 3G.

I am not using a router and I am not using Ethernet cables, no crossover cables.

Is it possible for the other two laptops to share the 3G laptop's internet connection wirelessly?

All laptops are running Windows 7 Ultimate.

I just tried this program called connectify and it did this for me very easily.

I haven't used it since Win 95 or 98, but there is still a built in tool to do this: Internet Connection Sharing.

Here's a basic overview: Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

Of course it uses more resources on the machine sharing the connection, but if it's the only option that you have .....

I tried that and established an ad hoc network and it looked like it wanted to work but it just didn't. Then I found connectify and that was a slam dunk.

Now, my next challenge is using two routers in my home as one router is on one far side of the house and most of the other PCs are on the other. Another thread.....
