Maybe use some compressed air. I can't imagine a shop paying someone to sit there and spend a ton of time cleaning a nasty keyboard when it could just be replaced pretty cheaply.
Compressed air can possibly blow the debris deeper into the keyboard or laptop. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to help dislodge debris, and to prevent the inadvertent sucking a key-top off.

Keep one hand on the laptop while doing this to ground it. Good luck find a bit of metal to touch...
