Look at the Dell Ultrasharps. I have an older one with a web cam. Its only VGA but surely the newer ones have HD webcams by now. Dell also has a sound bar that attaches to some of their monitors, sounds better than typical integrated speakers, and saves the space and wires associated with typical 2 piece speakers.
If space is that much of an issue, I'd rather pick up a slimmer web-cam than have a built-in one. If the webcam (or LCD) ever dies, you're SOL.
Granted, that Asus LCD above does have a three-year warranty, but it'd be a lot cheaper to replace a $40 webcam than a $300 LCD. A lot of external webcams have a wide profile, rather than tall, and they would extend slightly higher than the one on the Asus LCD there.

A built in web cam doesn't really add any cost to a monitor. If the monitor dies, you simply buy another monitor with a webcam. If you webcam dies, you just forget it exists and put an external web cam on top of the monitor. Who would replace a monitor just because the webcam died?

Some people want a webcam without one more device and cable to mess with. Why not put one in something that's already there? I have a webcam in one of my monitors. It works great.

You have a USB cable you need to plug-in anyway, why bother with building it in when you can buy one separately--and it's adjustable?
Well my monitor already has a USB cable for the hub ports. Having a separate webcam would have been an additional cable.
Most monitors have two--power and video. Some have audio, and usb, and apparently webcams.
I can understand speakers--those take up a lot of space, but a webcam? They're so small. Too each his own, though. I wouldn't bother with AIO systems like that.
