Turn off the touch pad and use a mouse for a while. See if the problem disappears.

What about a stuck key??

If the down arrow or page down key was stuck you might get a similar result.

Does it do the same thing if you open a doc, or text file that is longer than the screen?

I wondered about that, too. I used to have a keyboard that the ctrl key would stick on occasionally. Drove me nuts!
