So, I need help as it appears I have royally messed up my computer. I downloaded a new internet security program and scanned for viruses and adware and the system found several of them. It deleted a lot of them but then it got stuck while trying to delete a few viruses/adware that were left. I tried cleaning/quarentine/ and delete and every time the security program would get stuck while trying to rid of them. Then I did something probably foolish and tried a program called Tweaknow thinking about it was something wrong with the registry. The program made a few registry changes when I rebooted. Then I tried again to scan and delete the adware/viruses and once again the program was stuck. I then tried to use system restore but the system was unresponsive after doing this. I was forced to turn off the machine and then rebooted. Now the computer mouse won't move. I tried using the arrows and tried System Restore but when the window pops up it is not loading correctly and is totally white. I then proceeded to try reinstalling the OS but I can't figure out how to boot from the cd. Pressing F8 upon booting shows some options like Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking, etc but no boot from cd option. What should I try next?

Did you check the BIOS setting to have the CD first in the boot list?
Sounds to me like a complete reinstall would be your best choice and then restore from your last backup before your mistake...
BTW, what was this new internet security program called?

Ouch! Lets start from the beginning: what internet security program you downloaded? ( That one that got stuck )

What about the option: restore to previous working condition ( or similar wording)?

I downloaded Centurylink's internet security since we have DSL with them. Yes, the restore feature won't work as the page is just totally whited out with no options.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite. Looking at the Boot Priority - Boot Priority = HDD>FDD>CD-ROM>LAN

Ok I figured out how to boot from CD. Is there anything else I should try before going with a complete reinstall?

Do you have another system that can access this one to get your data? If so copy the data off.
If you have another system download this: (be aware, it is old 4/21/09)

My personal opinion? Bite the bullet and do a complete reinstall.
