What Printer Should I Buy?? Help? (laptop, desktop, email, graphics)

I need a really good color printer with an automatic document feeder to scan large size documents for my home office. Thanks in advance. (Canon, HP, Brother?) (Does Nikon make a solid printer with autofeed?)

I have found it better to have two separate stations. A good scanner with auto feeder and a good color printer (not ink-jet since ink is so expensive). The all-in-one units never seem to work right and are a hassle to setup. However, they make sense if you are tight on space.

I agree with Frank. Two units are better than one.

I would try to avoid the low end HP multifunction devices if you can. So for the printer I would look at one of the Brother 8.5 x 11" color LED-laser printers. I prefer lasers over ink jet even though they are more expensive but you get very long cartridge life and color prints that do not run when a drop of water that hits them.

Alternatively the Xerox Phaser printers have a very good reputation in the graphics sector.

For the scanner I would try to find a graphics company (or two) and ask the them what they reccomend.

I would look for one with wireless capability for printing. If you have a laptop it is a hassle to either plug it in all the time, or sharing it through a desktop connection. You can also put the device anywhere you want, it doesn't have to be next to a PC.

I also recommend everything else mentioned - 2 devices, laser, etc. Inkjets are a pain when the heads get clogged.

What about the Brother all in one with docufeed? I found this on Amazon and it is reasonable.Brother Printer MFC7460DN Ethernet Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax (Office Product) The main thing I don't want to have problems with is the multi document feeding for scaning stuff in to save and email out.

My laser printer is a Brother and I have had no problems whatsoever. The one you chose seems good, and has good reviews. It does not print color, or have wireless capability. But if you don't need color and plug it into a wireless router you should be all set.

I would look at a Kodak printer. That's my next choice, since the ink/toner is cheaper than the other big names. Buy a cheap printer and pay out the nose for their supplies. It would be a good idea to check Kodak reviews before buying any printer.

You want the HP Officejet 8600 series. It's a little expensive upfront, but is cheaper to run than a laser printer.
