While doing some testing on Win8 tonight, I added a Microsoft Live, Gmail, and Yahoo account to the built-in mail app in Win8. Are there as few configuration options as it appears or am I missing something? It looks like an incredibly stripped-down front end for webmail accounts only. Oh, andI think it kept crashing when I hit the <-- button when viewing my Yahoo account. Brilliant.

I wouldn't put much faith in it. It was developed by an intern as an independent project.

Is it anything comparable to windows live email? I just installed 2012 on a win7computer and frankly it sux... I've been using MS for a email client going back to OE on win95. Guess it's the end of the road for that. I uninstalled it and found the 2009 version.

Even worse they force you to upgrade it you want the newer versions of the application for Live.

No. It's completely new for the Metro interface. They had interns develop applications on the side and included what came out of it. It's not all that featureful.

What's wrong with Outlook?

Hmmm looking at some images of Outlook it appears it's not much different than Live at least as far as the interface but I'm talking about Live.

In any event I want a simplified interface with access to just the quick actions, delete, sync mark as read etc. In live they have these little tiny icons and no option for text. Another issue was I could find no way to get a menu bar, last but not least I could not find the option for "create rule from message". This is all I want...

Maybe you'd like a non-Microsoft email client like Mozilla Thunderbird

I was looking at that too, but I'm happy with the 2009 version of live. If it weren't still avaiable I'd probably be using TB now,

Really? Most people would rather not spend an extra $109 (Amazon price) to do something that Windows had included for free since 1998.
