Yep, its changed for everyone. Well, everyone who has restarted their browser since the re-design. My dad called me because he couldn't figure out how to reply to a message. Its seems like everyone designing for the web or desktop is now taking cues from phone/tablet software and relying much more on symbols than words. Everyone's just supposed to know what every symbol means. That purple bar is horrible to look at too.
OK, I see the motive, but I don't have to like it. I got a better look and saw I may have only lost a couple of thousand messages, unless they are just showing plus marks to round things off. Likewise, I probably didn't lose any contacts. I did see how I could at least change the color at the top. Look for the gear icon and you can put a bit of color or minimalist design via that.
Yahoo, the company, was in a death spiral. It has a new CEO trying to reinvigorate it. One of the few products the company has that a large number of people still use regularly is email. The CEO felt it needed a facelift.

Wait until you try to send several attachments. Maybe even one attachment or heaven forbid you have to open one. In order to open an attachment now, I have to forward the email by my gmail account which will, I guess, become my email acct for anything but online purchases, groups, anything that can send me spam.
(I started a thread on this a coupla days ago it is not functional regardless of the interface)
I still have my hotmail account NOT because I hate change, but because it offers people an e-mail address that they know I will still have in the future. Basically, no one would have to worry about whether or not I still have my hotmail account, they know where to reach me. However, I got my hotmail account as a sophomore in college. The address name, which I will not post, sounds unprofessional. Nothing bad, just sounds a bit like a child's e-mail address. Hence, now that I am recovered from a serious medical condition and soon to start looking for work, I will have to get a more professional sounding e-mail address for my resume. So I am thinking about gmail or outlook. I just haven't decided yet which one is better. I am sure it will not matter much, as long as I do not have any silliness in the address. I just want to know if outlook has a bright future (I plan on keeping my professional e-mail address for a while) and if Outlook can forward e-mails from hotmail should I decide to give up my old account.
Outlook? I thought that was just a program for managing email (i.e., you can use it with the gmail or most other accounts as the interface)
I am switching over the gmail and it has some interesting features for organizing your mails; if you like hotmail can't you get a second hotmail address. I opened up a hotmail acct but not using it yet.

Outlook is the name for Microsoft's redesigned Hotmail. They keep changing their name. We're hotmail! No, we're MSN! No, we're Microsoft Live! No, we're Window Live! No, we're Outlook! You can now get an @outlook.com email address from them. If you have an older @hotmail.com, @msn.com, or @live.com address, you can upgrade to Outlook.com, which changes the interface to look flat and boring like Windows8.
Ahh.....strange.....they would give it the same name as the program.
