Hello Everyone;
I'm pretty much ignorant when it comes to computers with regards to the finer details of things, and given I don't trust the sales people in any store to know as much or anything about computers I figured I'd ask here as well.

I am in the market for a portable computer i.e. Laptop, Netbook, Notebook, Tablet and anything else that falls within this category!

What I'd need it to do: 1st and foremost be able to watch DVD's either via outlet plugin or having an actual DVD player built in.
2nd Must have multiple atleast 3 USB or connection hubs for external devices like a portable DVD player, USB's, and my cell phone.

3rd: While I'm not a gamer I'd like for the equipment to allow for quick/fast uploading of wifi, internet, video etc. In other words I don't want it to be noticeably slow when moving from window to window.

Lastly: I'll be using this unit mostly while out of the home traveling, camping, searching the web, chatting, videos etc. OOH! A camera isn't necessary but having the capability to connect a camera to the unit is of big importance.

I've researched and looked at pretty much everything at Bestbuy and HHGregg etc just can't determine what unit is best suited for my needs.

Your help is greatly appreciated. OH and price I'd prefer to stay under $1K

So you're using it to watch DVDs and surf the net and need an external USB port?
I'd say a Windows tablet would be good: Microsoft Surface or Asus T100.

I'd suggest a laptop. He is (his words) ignorant about this type of stuff. Not nearly the learning curve of a Windows tablet.

With my iPad, I convert the DVD to a file using Handbrake, and then load the file on the tablet. I can do this with several movies. Much more convenient than lugging a DVD player around. Just to be clear, other tablets can do this as well. For files, use dropbox or other service instead of USB. If you don't think you can do this, then choose one of the other choices.

How long battery life do you need, how full is your current hard drive, what type of phone do you use.

I always backup DVD movies onto my hard drive on my old computer using AppGeeker DVD Ripper, and sometimes transfer to iPad to enjoy on a trip.

From the description of your needs go buy a laptop with 8GB RAM and a AMD 6300 or i5 processor(or higher). Screen size should be no larger than 15.6. Skip online and walk into a Staples and choose one that fits your budget.

FWIW The words Laptop and Notebook are interchangable. Netbooks have died off. Tablets are use specific primarily for internet usage and cloud connectivity. So in my case I use a Ultrabook laptop that has no built-in DVD drive (externals are cheap) and a Tablet.
