I absolutely agree. If you're printing out coupons, articles, shopping lists, children's schoolwork, etc, you just need the cheapest paper that works in your printer.
When I print documents for presentations and conferences, I use high quality paper. But it's not worth the $$ for all the other everyday printing I do.

Its still not a bad printer for a home user who would otherwise spend a similar amount on an inkjet that would cost more to operate and likely not last as long.

$59 is a steal for that printer. Even at the current price of $177 (a matter of fax), it's probably a better buy than the HL-2240 if you plan on keeping it for a long while.
The ongoing cost for the toner for the HL-5370DW is almost as cheap as the ongoing cost of the ink cartridges for the HP Officejet X series. Both of which are significantly cheaper than the HL-2240. If you print a lot, it's a no brainer to go with the HL-5370DW. If you hardly print, the HL-2240 might be better given the (current) cheaper upfront cost.

The generic toner is even cheaper on eBay @ $16 for the TN-650 compared to the Staples price of $120. I also purchased last year thr MFC-9440CN on a blowout sales BNIB for $149 and also use eBay toner. Brother printers are not picky as to where the toner comes from. Which is unlike our HP printer which gives me an error message for using a non-HP toner (press skip and its fine).

Where is it on sale now? A good price a couple of months ago does no one any good now. It's nice to want bragging rights, but it doesn't help a person looking for a printer today.
