Years ago (decades), when I was using a 386 and telnetting into a dial-up Lynx freenet browser, my dialer (I think it was Telix) had a feature in which I could pre-program twelve words or phrases (or whole paragraphs, I suppose) into the twelve F-keys, and the word would be entered on the screen by tapping one key. Is there any way to set up my computer so it will do that now?
There are certain words that I use often (people, population, Europe, constitution, for example) that I always garble when I touch type. It would be nice if I could have a single key that would present a drop-down menu with pre-entered words, that I could just select. Somewhat like the menu of choices in the SpellCheck dropdown, which enter in full when clicked..
It's funny how the simplest things (macros, in this case) have to "evolve" into complicated things, requiring 3rd party software to implement. Crazy.
I remember Telix. I was more of a Telemate guy, myself. Even did some scripting in TM, beyond simple logon scripts. I use SecureCRT now, and all my scripting is done on the server side. I don't have much use for macros anymore, although I couldn't live without RoboForm's form filling capabilities - I use it probably a hundred times a day, and it saves me hours per month of typing the same info into a web form over and over.
