I am told this is just a scam. I hope that is true. Just want to know if anyone else has had this experience.

I just received a phone call from some foreign person. With his thick accent, I could not understand 90% of what he said - something about my computer was sending messages. What messages and to whom, I do not know. I asked if he had someone there who speaks English. Another man with a similar accent came on to tell me the same thing. At first he said my server was sending the messages. When I challenged him to tell me who my server is, he could not but started telling other stuff that went over my head. I finally told him I could not understand him and said good bye.

ESET scanned my computer this morning and declared it clean. I checked the log and it said it was scanning C:/Windows/installer, whatever that is.

Please tell me this is a scam and that I do not need to start digging for problems. Thank you.

100% SCAM.. I recall getting one of these, I trolled the idiot pretty hard.. got 20 minutes of fun there.

scammer: "your windows is sending messages"...
me: What windows? Should I open them up, it's kinda cold out?
scammer: "your windows is sendigns messages that it have a virus"
me: "Oh you mean the windows operating system. What IP address are these coming from"
scamer: "uh.. your windows IP address"
me: "I have dozens of computers here, you'll need to be more specific"
scammer: "your windows computer"
me: "which one"
scammer: "the one sendinngs messages"..

Went on like that for 20 or so minutes, figured I probably saved a few victims the call by wasting his time.

Love it! I kept wondering what would happen if I'd told him I didn't have a computer. But I frustrated him badly enough about his foreign accent and I wasn't kidding. I just cannot understand those accents by phone. I even have trouble with British English.

Good to get confirmation that it is a scam.

My wife and I had a BLAST messing with one of these guy's a few months ago. I can't relay the entire conversation, but let's just say he was really into it when we said that we probably got the virus from all of the elephant porn that we had been watching...

Got the same call and I DID tell him I didn't have a computer. He said never mind, and hung up.

Messing with those callers is a lot of fun!

What is your name? DOB? Spouse? Home Address? Income? Social Security Number? Credit Card Info?

Some of them will actually give you some information. The idea is to keep them off balance by asking about them since they are the one calling you. Have fun!

I wish I could think as fast as some of you. I always think what I should have said ten minutes after I hang up. Thank you all. It is good to be sure it is a scam and to read how you all handled it. Enough of those and they might give up. Probably not.
