Another hardware-related question please, for the tech gurus on this forum
Could someone kindly please provide some more information on what are the relative advantages and disadvantages in installing the type of LR-DIMM memory modules described below, on one of my test server boxes?
--32GB 240pin PC3L-10600L 1333MHz LRDIMM ECC Memory
For instance, how does a DDR3-1333 1x32 GB LR-DIMM memory sticks stack up performance-wise, vs. say a smaller-size DDR3 stick that can take say 1x16 GB of DDR3-1866, ECC RDIMM memory?
(This particular test server can take up to a total of 512 GB LR-DIMM RAM, vs. 256 GB RDIMM RAM. The main reason I am asking is in order to plan what kind of future memory upgrades I want to do on my test server, since I cannot mix LR-DIMM and RDIMM memory modules together -- I can only go exclusively with one or the other. Also, as far as I can determine, the only memory size stick of LR-DIMM that is officially listed as supported on my test server in the product manual is the 32 GB stick size.)
