Yup, I'm working on USB 3.0 designs at work right now.
One thing the article doesn't mention is you also get more power per port with 3.0 --- 900mA vs. 500mA. So that means more juice to power your coffee warmers, booklights, personal cooling fans, back massager, etc.

That's a nice bump in power. I'd like to see enough to run a 3.5" hard drive. How much power does a firewire port deliver?
Now we need faster things to connect. Faster than USB 2.0 when connecting to external drives, but it can't be any faster than eSATA until the next generation of SATA drives come on the scene. Then when SATA III becomes common (6Gbps) it will again be behind the curve, as the anticipated throughput of USB 3.0 is 3.2Gbps when protocol overhead is factored in.

1394a specs up to 30V at up to 1.5A. The key is that there is no guarantee how much power any particular device/node will provide. Our mobos provide 12V through a 1.5A fuse, so you get 18W.
Users will also need adapters to use the Type-C with their current USB connectors.
Yeah, let's make life simpler.
I've always compared people who can't figure out how to plug in USB or other adapters to those who can stand up and hit the toilet when peeing. They just aren't capable of eye anything coordination.
If a person can't figure out how to plug a USB connection in the correct direction, then I wonder what they do with polarized electrical plugs.
An electric plug can easily be identified, USB can't. Just looking at the front of my computer the top slots on the case are reversed compared to the one on the card reader.
